On-Line Searching in Simple Polygons

چکیده
In this paper we study the problem of a robot searching for a visually recognizable target in an unknown simple polygon. We present two algorithms. Both work for arbitrarily oriented polygons. The search cost is proportional to the distance traveled by the robot. We use competitive analysis to judge the performance of our strategies. The rst one is a simple modiication of Djikstra's shortest path algorithm and achieves a competitive ratio of 2n ? 7 where n is the number of vertices of the polygon. The second strategy achieves a competitive ratio of 1 + 2 (2k) 2k =(2k ? 1) 2k?1 if the polygon is k-spiral. This can be shown to be optimal. It is based on an optimal algorithm to search in geometric trees which is also presented in this paper. Consider a geometric tree with m leaves and a target hidden somewhere in the tree. The target can only be detected if the robot reaches the location of the target. We provide an algorithm that achieves a competitive ratio of 1 + 2m m =(m ? 1) m?1 and show its optimality.

A Fast Algorithm for Covering Rectangular Orthogonal Polygons with a Minimum Number of r-Stars
Introduction This paper presents an algorithm for covering orthogonal polygons with minimal number of guards. This idea examines the minimum number of guards for orthogonal simple polygons (without holes) for all scenarios and can also find a rectangular area for each guards. We consider the problem of covering orthogonal polygons with a minimum number of r-stars. In each orthogonal polygon P,...
متن کاملSingle-Point Visibility Constraint Minimum Link Paths in Simple Polygons
We address the following problem: Given a simple polygon $P$ with $n$ vertices and two points $s$ and $t$ inside it, find a minimum link path between them such that a given target point $q$ is visible from at least one point on the path. The method is based on partitioning a portion of $P$ into a number of faces of equal link distance from a source point. This partitioning is essentially a shor...
متن کاملMaking Polygons by Simple Folds and One Straight Cut
We give an efficient algorithmic characterization of simple polygons whose edges can be aligned onto a common line, with nothing else on that line, by a sequence of all-layers simple folds. In particular, such alignments enable the cutting out of the polygon and its complement with one complete straight cut. We also show that these makable polygons include all convex polygons possessing a line ...
متن کاملWindow Queries On Planar Subdivisions Arising From Overlapping Polygons
We present efficient algorithms for partitioning 2dimensional space into faces arising from the boundaries of overlapping polygons. In particular, we examine the case where the partitioning arises from overlaying m k-sided simple polygons. A dynamic data structure is presented for storing the partitioning that arises from m polygons with at most k sides each in space O(km) if the polygons are a...
متن کاملAnalysis and Synthesis of Facial Expressions by Feature-Points Tracking and Deformable Model
Face expression recognition is useful for designing new interactive devices offering the possibility of new ways for human to interact with computer systems. In this paper we develop a facial expressions analysis and synthesis system. The analysis part of the system is based on the facial features extracted from facial feature points (FFP) in frontal image sequences. Selected facial feature poi...
